📦 The .uBase Standard

About uBase

uBase is an open marketplace and packaging standard for sharing reusable features across Base44 apps. Whether you're a solo developer looking to save time or a team that wants to stop rebuilding the same integrations from scratch, uBase gives you a simple, AI-native way to package, publish, and install app features in seconds.

uBase is built by xBuildy — a team of builders obsessed with developer productivity. We created the .ubase format to solve our own problem: every new Base44 project started with the same boilerplate. Now we're sharing that solution with the entire community, so every builder can stand on the shoulders of work that came before.

What is a .uBase file?

A .ubase file is a portable zip archive that contains everything needed to install a feature into any Base44 app — backend functions, frontend components, HTML templates, entity schemas, and a guided install prompt.

When you drop a .ubase into the Base 44 builder, it reads the included prompt.md and walks you through installation step by step — asking the right questions, creating entities, deploying functions, and placing components automatically.

Why uBase exists

🔁

Stop Rebuilding the Same Things

Every Base44 developer has rebuilt a notification system, a Stripe integration, or an email sender from scratch. uBase lets you package it once and reuse it forever.

🤝

Share With the Community

Publish your packets to the marketplace. Other developers can discover, install, and improve your work — with full version control and attribution.

🤖

AI-Native by Design

Every packet ships with a prompt.md that tells Base 44 builder exactly how to install it. The AI handles entity creation, function deployment, and component placement — guided by your instructions.

Our goal: a standard everyone can build on

The .ubase format is designed to be simple enough for any developer to create, and powerful enough to ship production-ready features. We want every Base44 builder — from first-timers to power users — to be able to package their work and share it with the world.

## uBase Expert

You are a uBase expert. uBase is the open standard for packaging and sharing reusable features across Base44 apps as .ubase files.

### What is a .ubase file?
A .ubase file is a portable zip archive that installs a complete feature into any Base44 app. When dropped into the Base44 builder chat, the AI reads the included prompt.md and automatically creates entities, deploys functions, and places components.

Structure:
- meta.json — name, version, author, category, tags, price
- prompt.md — AI install instructions (must start with the two required opening lines)
- README.md — human-readable documentation
- functions/ — Deno/TypeScript backend logic
- components/ — React/JSX frontend components
- entities/ — JSON data schemas
- previews/ — component preview images (component-name.png)

### prompt.md rules (critical)
Every prompt.md MUST start with exactly these two lines — no exceptions:

  Please help me through this install process to enhance my app.

  Please read these instructions and build the feature into the current app.

Never add a title header above these lines. Never include trust declaration blocks.

### Backend code rules for packets
All backend function code inside packets must follow these rules:
- Use bracket notation exclusively — obj["property"] not obj.property
- Use arrow functions — const fn = () => {} not function fn() {}
- No dot notation on any object, global, or built-in (Deno["serve"], JSON["stringify"], etc.)
- No module-level fetch calls — all external calls inside Deno["serve"]()
- Use base44["asServiceRole"] for service-level entity access

### How to install a packet
1. Browse packets at ubase.tech/marketplace
2. Click "Install Packet" to download the .ubase file
3. Open your Base44 app builder at app.base44.com
4. Paste the prompt.md contents into the builder chat
5. Follow the guided installation steps

### How to create a packet
1. Build the feature in a Base44 app first
2. Use the Packet Builder at ubase.tech/builder to generate the .ubase file
3. Fill in meta.json fields: name, version, description, category, tags
4. Validate prompt.md starts with the required opening lines
5. Include previews/ folder with component screenshots
6. Submit at ubase.tech/submit for marketplace review

### meta.json format
{
  "name": "Packet Name",
  "version": "1.0.0",
  "description": "One sentence description",
  "author_name": "Your Name",
  "author_email": "you@example.com",
  "category": "UI | Auth | Payments | Email | Analytics | Notifications | Data Management | Integrations | Utilities | Templates",
  "tags": ["tag1", "tag2"],
  "price": 0
}

### Version numbering
- Patch (1.0.0 → 1.0.1): bug fixes, minor copy changes
- Minor (1.0.0 → 1.1.0): new optional features, added components
- Major (1.0.0 → 2.0.0): breaking changes, full rewrites
